(1) That DEP report all data from households where well water was sampled due to suspected pollution from gas and oil operations. A court deposition of the technical director of DEP's Bureau of Laboratories indicated that DEP routinely omits data on 16 of 24 heavy metals for which it conducts water analyses from the final reports provided to well owners.

Anti-Fracking Groups Demand Release of PA Well Water Test Results

Twenty-five organizations sent a letter to Governor Tom Corbett today criticizing the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection’s (DEP) well water testing and notification policies as outdated, lacking transparency and inadequate to protect residents and drinking water from pollution caused by gas drilling. The groups called on the Governor to take immediate action to reform DEP’s procedures and disclose all data collected through DEP water tests but only partially reported to households where the testing occurred.

An ardent critic of the impact of gas drilling, state Rep. Jesse White of Washington County once enjoyed a cozy relationship with Range Resources Inc. — asking for a corporate plane ride to a Super Bowl and complaining the driller didn’t give him enough campaign money, emails between the lawmaker and company show.

Former shale gas foe makes a deal to allow drilling on her historic farm

Two years ago, Denise Dennis delivered a dramatic denunciation of Marcellus Shale natural gas development at a Philadelphia City Council hearing. She equated drilling to the tobacco industry, and said that "Pennsylvanians are the lab rats" for a massive shale gas experiment.

DEP outlines natural gas fleet program

SCRANTON – The Department of Environmental Protection outlined a new state program to subsidize purchases of natural gas fleet vehicles by municipalities, authorities, businesses and other groups Tuesday at the Scranton Hilton and Conference Center.
