EQT Announces 2013 Operational Forecast

PITTSBURGH-EQT Corporation (NYSE: EQT) today announced the Company’s 2013 capital expenditure (CAPEX) forecast of $1.5 billion. The CAPEX forecast includes $1.15 billion for EQT Production, $320 million for EQT Midstream, and $45 million for distribution infrastructure projects and other corporate items. The forecast does not include CAPEX for EQT Midstream Partners, LP (NYSE: EQM), which is a publicly traded entity controlled by EQT Corporation and consolidated in its financial statements. Funding will be provided by cash-on-hand at year-end, cash generated from operations, and proceeds from expected midstream asset sales (dropdowns) to EQT Midstream Partners, LP.

MSC Releases Recommended Practices for Motor Vehicle Safety

Pittsburgh, PA – Today, the Marcellus Shale Coalition (MSC) released a Recommended Practices focused on Motor Vehicle Safety. The fifth in a series of such guidance documents, this Recommended Practice builds upon the ongoing MSC-sponsored Transportation Safety Day and Flagger Training seminars, which provide hands-on training for motor carriers, drivers, and others working in the natural gas industry.
“Shale gas development requires a great deal of logistical and transportation planning and training. Our industry is absolutely aware of how critical transportation-related safety is for our employees and contractors, and especially for the communities where we operate,” said MSC president Kathryn Z. Klaber. “

Pittsburgh International Still Struggling With Low Passenger Count

In early 2011 the Allegheny Institute wrote two Policy Briefs (Volume 11, Numbers 8 and 16) outlining some of the problems facing Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT). The first Brief detailed the decline in passengers at PIT and how nearly twenty years after the new terminal opened it was grossly underutilized—due in large part to the loss of the US Airways’ hub.

Study says methane emissions from shale wells lower than thought

A new study by MIT researchers finds the actual amount of methane emissions caused by production of natural gas in shale formations has been greatly exaggerated in previous studies, particularly a controversial Cornell University study released last year. The MIT researchers found that the potential methane emissions per well in the Barnett and Haynesville shales were 273 metric tons and 1,177 metric tons, respectively.

The news story “Bromide down in Mon, still elevated in Allegheny” (Nov. 9 and TribLIVE.com) simplified and sensationalized the issue unnecessarily, incorrectly targeted permitted treatment of wastewater from conventional oil and gas operations (i.e., not from Marcellus shale operations) as a prominent source for isolated incidents of elevated bromide levels and requires the insertion of important facts and historical information.
