Agriculture and Energy Industries Meet to Discuss Natural Gas Development in Pennsylvania

 Harrisburg, PA — Today, the Keystone Energy Forum, in partnership with PennAg Industries Association & the Professional Dairy Managers of Pennsylvania held its second “Agricultural Forum” focusing on natural gas development and its interaction with Pennsylvania's agricultural community. The forum allowed numerous agricultural groups and natural gas industry leaders to engage in discussions that will help both industries better coexist.

MSC Participates in 97th Annual Pa. Farm Show

Harrisburg, Pa. – This week, the Marcellus Shale Coalition (MSC) and dozens of natural gas industry employees participated in the 97th annual Pennsylvania Farm Show, the region’s largest and most diverse agricultural expo hosted each year at the Harrisburg Farm Show Complex. In partnership with MSC member companies, the organization’s booth provided farmers and others from the agriculture industry firsthand access to natural gas development subject matter experts. This is the third consecutive year that the MSC has actively participated in the annual farm show.

Bayer looks for source of benzene, pushes research consortium

The region‘s cheap supply of shale gas could solve another problem if government and industry collaborate on new ways to convert it to benzene, a local Bayer Corp. executive said at a Downtown conference on Thursday.

[...]The gas-drilling industry is portrayed (accurately in my view) as unscrupulous, but the plot does not deal very much with fundamental issues, such as the damage fracking is doing to Pennsylvania or the methods the Texas robber barons use to get their way in Harrisburg.

HARRISBURG -- An article by four Canadian researchers argues that Pennsylvania's environmental regulators omitted thousands of natural gas wells from the list it compiled last year that tallied those potentially liable for the state's new drilling fee.

Funding for fracking research should not come from industry

Although I was pleased to read about the study recently initiated by the Biology Department at Misericordia University which focuses upon the relationship of Marcellus shale development to forest fragmentation and its subsequent effect upon surrounding wildlife, this does bring a few questions to mind. Why haven't we seen similar studies on the effects of drilling on people, animals and plants living near well pads?

Miscounted gas wells could have cost state millions

Pennsylvania governments may have missed out on as much as $303 million in gas well impact fees in 2012 because state regulators undercounted the number of wells covered by the law, according to an article published this month in the journal Environmental Practice.
