State Department of Environmental Protection Secretary Michael Krancer last week responded in two separate letters to allegations from state Rep. Jesse White, D-Cecil Township, that the DEP wasn’t releasing the full results of their residential water testing results, claiming the unreported metals were unrelated to Marcellus drilling activity.

Environmentalists to appeal ANF drilling ruling

ERIE, Pa.— The Sierra Club and the Allegheny Defense Project have filed notice that they're appealing a federal judge's September ruling that says the U.S. Forest Service can't regulate gas or oil drilling or other efforts to access mineral rights in the Allegheny National Forest.

PITTSBURGH — High levels of an ultra-salty compound that could be linked to oil and gas drilling persist in the Allegheny River's Pittsburgh-area watershed, while the levels declined in the nearby Monongahela River, recent research shows.

Study finds lower bromide levels in Mon, but not in Allegheny

Salty bromide concentrations in the Monongahela River, which had risen in 2009 and 2010 due, at least in part, to discharges of Marcellus Shale gas drilling wastewater by sewage treatment plants, returned to normal levels in 2011 and this year, according to a Carnegie Mellon University river monitoring study.

Audubon Society of Western Pa. weighs whether to lease land for gas drilling

Audubon Society of Western Pennsylvania is a major landowner and therefore a focus of interest for the gas industry. The board of the organization, a microcosm of the larger society, thoughtfully examined the issue from different perspectives to determine whether or not it should lease its land for gas drilling.
