Tonight is the night scheduled for local residents to comment on a proposal by Windfall Oil and Gas to build an injection well just south of DuBois to "dispose of" (their words, not ours) fluids produced in association with oil or gas production operations, chiefly hydrofracturing deep rock formations with water mixed with any number of chemicals, then regurgitated along with any number of other chemicals from deep underground. A day later (Tuesday), a 7 p.m. meeting at the James City Fire Hall will consider another such application in that Elk County area.

But two new surveys found that many people who live in New York City and the suburbs approve of drilling in parts of that state, and that Pennsylvania residents who live in an area of heavy drilling feel the benefits outweigh the risks.
